Refund-Window Comparison Across 7 Game Platforms
An original descriptive study of the refund windows and playtime conditions recorded in the GameFixPro 7-platform refund-policy dataset. Counts are taken directly from the published policy text; no approval, refusal or success rates are inferred.
Key findings
- Every platform in the sample states a 14-day refund window (7/7, 100.0%). Some apply it with region-specific exceptions (notably Nintendo in North America).
- 3 of 7 platforms (42.9%) apply a hard 2-hour playtime cap (Steam, Xbox, Epic). The others use case-by-case review or a download/stream trigger instead of a fixed hour cap.
- 4 of 7 platforms (57.1%) carry a special handling flag for region- or product-specific nuances (PlayStation, EA, Nintendo, Riot).
- Across all 7 platforms, 31 non-refundable cases are catalogued (downloads/streams already consumed, wallet top-ups, virtual currency, gifts, bundles, etc.).
Results
Percentages use all 7 platforms as the denominator.
| Measure | Platforms | Share |
|---|---|---|
| 14-day window stated | 7 | 100.0% |
| Hard 2-hour playtime cap | 3 | 42.9% |
| Special handling flag | 4 | 57.1% |
| Non-refundable cases (total) | 31 | — |
Method
- Take the 7 platform records from the in-repo refund-policy dataset.
- Read each record’s
windowDaysandplaytimeCapHoursfields. - Count platforms with a 14-day window and platforms with a 2-hour cap.
- Tally the
nonRefundableentries across all records. - Report shares against the 7-platform denominator; no outcomes are modeled.
The comparison is reproducible from the downloadable JSON linked on the dataset citation page.
Limitations
- The sample is seven major platforms, not the full market.
- Policies change; values reflect the 2026-08-16 retrieval.
- Statutory withdrawal rights can override a platform’s stated window and are not counted here.
- Counts describe published policy text and do not predict individual refund outcomes.
