GTA 5 PS5 & Xbox Enhanced Edition (2026) — Modes, HSW & Is It Worth It
60 FPS, ray tracing, Hao's Special Works and the Career Builder, explained.

Grand Theft Auto V for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S (the 'Expanded and Enhanced' edition) is a separate, paid purchase — not a free upgrade. It adds three graphics modes, faster SSD loading, DualSense features and console-exclusive content. Here is exactly what changes in 2026.
Three graphics modes
Pick your priority.
Fidelity Mode
Native 4K at 30 FPS with ray-traced reflections and shadows. Best for screenshot-quality visuals.
Performance Mode
Upscaled 4K at a locked 60 FPS. The default for most players — the biggest improvement over last-gen's 30 FPS cap.
Performance RT
60 FPS with ray tracing enabled (upscaled 4K). The best balance for competitive play and visuals.
What's new vs last gen
More than just resolution.
SSD loading
Load into Story Mode or a session in well under 20 seconds versus minutes on PS4/Xbox One. Transitions between modes are near-instant.
DualSense & 3D audio
Haptic feedback for road surface and weapon kick, adaptive trigger resistance, and positional 3D audio on a compatible headset.
Hao's Special Works (HSW)
An LS Car Meet shop with exclusive performance upgrades pushing select cars past 150 mph — a new top tier for racing, console-exclusive.
Career Builder
New GTA Online characters get a $4,000,000 budget to pick a criminal path (Biker, Executive, Nightclub, Gunrunner) plus a vehicle and weapons — a major head start.
GTA+
A monthly subscription (current-gen only) with cash bonuses, discounts and early HSW access.
Migration & purchase
One-time transfer, paid upgrade.
Not free
The Enhanced edition is a standalone purchase on the PlayStation / Microsoft store. There is no free in-place upgrade from PS4/Xbox One.
One-time migration
You can transfer your Story Mode and GTA Online character once from last-gen to current-gen. The transfer is one-way — do it deliberately.
PC status
Many Enhanced console features (ray tracing, HSW vehicles) have not been fully ported to the PC version as of 2026; PC players already enjoy high frame rates and mods but lack HSW content.
Is it worth it?
Depends who you are.
Verdict
For new players or avid GTA Online riders on current-gen hardware: yes — 60 FPS and HSW are significant. For someone who finished the story years ago on PS4 and has moved on: probably skip unless a deep sale lands. With GTA VI arriving Nov 19, 2026, many are using Enhanced as a victory lap before the sequel.
