Why PC releases fail the way they do
Three causes account for most of what players report.
Shader compilation and drivers
Modern engines compile shaders on first launch and after every driver update. That pass is memory-hungry and CPU-sensitive, which is why crashes cluster at startup and right after a driver change rather than mid-game. Cyberpunk 2077 on REDengine 4 is no exception — a corrupt or stale shader cache is behind a large share of otherwise unexplained crashes.
Injected software
Overlays, recorders, RGB control utilities, hardware monitors and antivirus hooks all inject code into the game process. Discord, GeForce Experience, MSI Afterburner, RivaTuner and Xbox Game Bar appear in crash reports for almost every title, including Cyberpunk 2077. They are also the cheapest thing to rule out.
Settings beyond what the GPU can carry
VRAM oversubscription does not produce a clean error. It produces texture pop-in, hitching, driver resets and eventually a crash that looks unrelated to graphics settings. Leaving roughly 500 MB to 1 GB of headroom prevents more problems than any single fix on this site.
